我們的 Gentoo Linux 在 GNU General Licence 版本 2 下所發表為免費軟體. 任何外面
所提供給 Gentoo Linux 的軟體 (免費散佈/修改的原始檔或是二進位) 的檔案有可能不適合 Gentoo Linux.
Gentoo Linux 除了 GNU General Public License 或是 Open Source Initiative
(<uri link="http://www.opensource.org/licenses/index.html">OSI</uri>.)
版權下的軟體以外,
不然我們永遠不會 <c>依賴</c> 任何一種軟體.

必要時, 我們會建立和免費軟體作者之間的關係. 我們會提供臭蟲修復, 更改, 使用者需求 等等. 給
那些 "上游" 的作者. 我們會以文件清楚的表明對 Gentoo Linux 有貢獻的及為了搭配而修改過的軟體
(不論是 Patch 或是 "sed tweak" 等等). 雖然不是每個人都有能力,時間更改軟體,
我們將以文件的方式解釋我們所作的修改和調整. 對於大型的免費軟體社群來說, 這是一個相當重要的步驟.
